Pre-Assessment

Out of the two things we drew in class today observation and imagination, observation felt more natural to me. I felt this way because I like when there are rules you have to follow because it makes the art easier for me. When I have to determine what is going to be in the picture and how to draw the objects a certain way, it becomes more hard.

Blog Post for X block

My favorite thing about today's lesson with charcoal was seeing the kids position in which they were standing. I also enjoyed to see the outcome of my charcoal drawing and what is was going to look like in the end. Something I did not like was the mess it made in my finger nails and all over my hands. Something I thought was cool was you could change the picture and make into something totally different by adding and crossing over objects. The idea of never letting your charcoal off the paper was really cool because you could never predict what was going to happen to you sketch of your person.

In the painting NIghthawks, the American painter Edward Hopper as many designs going on. There is two building separated by a road in between. The building in the front you can see through into a clear window. The front building is called the Phillie's. The name is locaed on top of the first story. The building behind you can see the first floor and nothing inside of it. You can see the door and windows and that is pretty much it. Both building are old and brown. Both buildings have windows. It looks like in the building behind has approximately symmetrical splitting the door. In the first building there is one female and three mens getting fed around a large brown table talking. In the room there is a yellow door to lead the way out of the room. The women and man look like they are together and they are getting there order taken from the man. There is another man by himself three seats away from the couple. Both men that were there were in suits and top hats. The women was dressed in a shirt red with long red hair. Everything look empty, the streets, the restaurant. The street that was in-between the two restaurants were empty and blank.

The mood of the painting makes me feel sad. It sad because its dark, gloomy, and not much is going on. The streets are empty and not full of joy. Both building were dark and unused. The people in the restaurant looked drowsy and not full of excitement. The name of the restaurant looks like a rich man owns it and it appears that he is not a happy person. The colors in the picture are mostly light brown, dark brown, gray, and black which puts someone emotions down. Overall the painting makes me feel like I do want to be there and it does not seem fun.

The terms of art principle for balance are very well distributed. Balance is the visual "weight" of an artwork feels equally distributed. There is four different types of balance they include SYMMETRY,APPROXIMATELY SYMMETRICAL, ASYMMETRY, and RADIAL. In the painting for Nighthawk there is all of those types of balance in the pciture. The painting also projects and included the principles of Design which are balance emphasis rhythm. (movement, proportion, unity-the feeling)

Blog post # 4

Most of the feedback I got from my class mates for pretty much summarizing the same thing. Everyone in the class could tell I was sledding down a hill and was going to crash into a fence. I got all positive feedback except that Hannah said that I could have done the clouds white and not different shades of blue. Some of the feedback was helpful and some was not. All the kids could tell I used all shapes including geometric, anthropomorphic and organic. The best feedback I got was people could tell that I was unhappy and I am going into a fence.

Overall out of all the projects my favorite project is the shape project. I loved to tell my story by using shapes. It cute, short and fun to do. I used different shapes by cutting exactly how I wanted to them to look. In my picture I used organic, geometric and anthropomrphic shapes to desribe what was gonig on in my picture. My picture included the sky, snow mountian, fence, tree and me on a sled going into the fence. I used different shapes and sizes to determine how big things were in portion to my picture. I also put shapes infront of other shapes to show what was bigger and smaller. I think I told my story very well, and if people looked at my picture then would understand what is going on.

Wire Sculpture Reflection

As I completed my wire sculpture, I became more into it. The most challenging part while doing the wire sculpture was being left handed. It was hard to grip the tool using my left hand and bend the metal using my right. I always lost the grip on the wire!! The best part of my sculpture was my eyes. I loved the way they looked and I think it looks most like human characteristics. Something I also liked about doing the wire sculpture because you had enough freedom to create your on thing/ideas. It had to look like you but you got to decided if you wanted thin wire or thick, or whats in the middle of your eyes etc.
The drawing assignment before doing the wire sculpture did not help me. I never once looked at my drawing to see if I actually look like the sculpture or what I was doing wrong. It would be more accurate just to look at yourself in the mirror then looking at your drawing. The most important thing I learned about doing lines is that lines is they can be totally random,or have to exactly fit to the activity your are doing.
